We currently offer you six classic sisal boucle weaves, and at first glance the choice is overwhelming. It may be simpler to break the choice down into categories of fiber origin and boucle size.
Boucle Size
These are natural fibers and each weave is slightly different, but essentially we offer two weave sizes in a boucle -small and large. The Composition and Bahia weaves are large boucles. All the rest are small boucles. For instance, the picture below on the right depicts
the Planta native and the Bahia native weaves side by side. These are woven of the same fiber by the same manufacturer. Each weave will wear similarly. The larger boucle is slightly more comfortable to walk on in bare feet, but the choice really is one of taste.
Fiber Origin
Sisal is a product of an Agave cactus plant which is cultivated in many areas of the world including Mexico, South America, Asia and Africa. The sisal fibers are separated from the plant, and then cleaned and dried. Next, the sisal fibers are graded based on fiber length, color uniformity, and strength. We use only the finest graded sisal in our rugs, and the grading process determines whether the fiber will end up as part of a fine floorcovering, or something like sisal twine. The qualities vary based on growing location, and the best fibers are sourced from East Africa, and then Brazil. Our Basic, Composition, and Demi-Point series are woven of 100% East African sisal, and the Planta and Bahia series are woven on 100% Brazilian sisal.
