Notes on Use Notes on Use:
  • Use in a dry, indoor environment
  • Never steam clean or wet shampoo these materials
  • All fibers, both dyed and undyed, will change over time - especially when exposed to direct sunlight
  • All plant fibers will reflect certain natural variations such as those in color or fiber thickness
  • Pattern Differences of up to 2" in the warp and weft can occur due to varuations in fibers
  • Hemp responds to changes in humidity by expanding and contracting
  • Never use Hemp in a below grade or damp setting
  • New Hemp has a natural hay scent that dissipates over time
  • The loose weave may result in some bowing and latex bleed-through

Hemp is also known as mountain grass in the west, and is a very earth friendly fiber. Hemp is a very fast growing plant often producing 2-1/2 times the fiber of Cotton in the same area while requiring little to no fertilizer or pesticides.

The fiber of the hemp plant is often called "Bast". Bast fibers are generally over 3 feet long, and can reach up to 15 feet in length which helps to produce a strong rug. Hemp is naturally browner than seagrass, and tends to show the same variations in color along the weave.

The hemp grass matte weave is a traditional half-Panama weave similar to our Traditional Chinese Seagrass Natural weave, while the Hemp Grass Parquet weave is a thick, durable four over four basket weave.
