Our Chinese Seagrass Rug Collections
At first glance… our seagrass collections appear similar
The traditional collection has long been a customer favorite as a hard-wearing, inexpensive natural rug more stain resistant than sisal.
Our Studio collection uses new technology to produce seagrass yarns that are woven tighter and denser. This results in a more refined weave -physically thinner than a traditional weave, but weighing approximately the same.

Seagrass rugs are derived from the fibers of tropical grasses which are tightly woven to produce a yarn that is smooth and comfortable to the touch. No dyes are used in the production so our seagrass rugs show color variations ranging from light tans to sage green hues.
We offer seagrass in a traditional Half-Panama and Basket Weave collection, as well as our newer studio collection featuring a more refined version of our traditional collection as well as a herringbone weave.
We offer our Seagrass rugs in a traditional Half-Panama and Basket Weave collection. These rugs are woven to the traditional weight of seagrass rugs, and are available as area rugs bound in cloth. Our newer studio collection features a more refined version of our traditional collection weaves with the addition of a beautiful herringbone weave.
The picture at right
demonstrates the difference between the two collections with a half-Panama weave. On the left is a Traditional collection weave, and on the right is one from the Studio collection.
The Studio collection rugs are woven much tighter than the traditional weaves resulting in a weave that weighs approximately the same, but is much smaller. The yarn weight of the weaves is 45 ounces per square yard for the weave on the left, and 47 ounces per square yard for the weave on the right.
Both rugs are woven of grasses harvested in China with a small amount (less than 10%) of sisal fiber added for durability and stability. The weaves are rated for area rug use only.
