Designer Sisal Rug Collection

The structure collection contains our woven-in designs with the pattern determined by the order and sequence of the weft and warp. The structure collection is woven in Europe exclusively of 100% East African sisal using Katani-Bora spun fibers. The weaves are very tight and comfortable underfoot. In addition their compact structure works well in rooms where heavy furniture is moved often.

The Textura collection are Belgian flat weaves of 100% East African sisal. The fibers grown in this region are widely regarded as the finest in the world, and we use only the best of this crop in our rugs. Functionally, flat weaves are very practical in rooms with heavy furniture or where the furniture is moved often, because they have no pile to crush.

APAEB was founded in 1980 as a loose association of local sisal farming families centered in Valente in the state of Bahia, Brazil. The region is one of the poorest in all of Brazil due in great part to its arid environment where very few agricultural or other opportunities exist. APAEB has grown to be a major benefactor to the area and is now the regions second largest employer -behind the region’s government. The core activity of sisal farming has expanded to the cooperative’s production of sisal products including world class sisal rugs.

Bouclés are considered the traditional sisal rug weave, and we offer this style in four series including two European weaves, a Brazilian and a Mexican weave. Composition and Bahia are both large bouclé weaves, while Basic and Elements are smaller, tighter weaves.
