Our sisal rugs and other natural fiber rugs should be used in an indoor environment protected from dampness or excessive humidity. Jute fiber is prized for its beauty and softness under foot, and is recommended for lower traffic areas. Sisal, seagrass, hemp, coir and paper are all durable fibers suitable for most rooms in the house.
In rooms where furniture is moved often we recommend a flat weave, such as those in our Textura sisal collection and adirondack paper collection, because they have no pile to crush. For more traditional sisal boucle weaves, we recommend our Lana sisal wool collection as the wool content adds resiliency to the weave.
Natural fiber rugs should not be used outdoors or in bathrooms where exposure to sunlight or humidity/wetness will damage the rug. Also, natural fibers should not be used on stairs. The surface may be smooth enough to allow leather soles to slip.
We'll be happy to help you with recommendations by room, and encourage you to order samples of the weaves you are interested in. You understand how each room is used in your house, and with sample in hand you are in good position to judge a weave's suitabity.
